May a cop impound my car for no licence and no licence plates in California?

IT IS MY BOYFRIENDS CAR AND I DONT HAVE A LICENCE AND WE HAVE NOT RECEIVED THE LICENCE PLATES FROM THE DEALER OR THE DMV! HE DIDN'T EVEN LET ME GET SOMEONE WITH A LICENCE PICK THE CAR UP

  2. Of course.  It is for public safety to not leave an abandoned vehicle on the side of the road.  He didn't let you have someone to pick it up...um, duh.  Is that officer supposed to sit there and wait for this supposed person to show up?  There isn't enough time for that.

  3. I'm afraid so. It's illegal for a car to be driven without a license plate. And it's also illegal to be driving without a license. That's probably why he wouldn't let anyone come pick the car up. Looks like you owe your boyfriend a new car   :(

  4. Yes. All vehicles must be registered. With no evidence of registration (i.e., license plates) the car would appear to authorities to be stolen or abandoned.
