Hi. I moved into a new apartment (the apartment itself isnt new, just the fact that i'm living in it) and i've killed like... 6 centipede in 2 weeks. my roommate who has lived here for a bit longer says she has also killed some. Now... I really can't bugs and centipede are the SCARIEST BIG EVER. they're so gross and they are huge! I'm like having trouble going to sleep and turning out my light in fear one might crawl onto my bed and.. ugh. How can i be sure i have some kind of infestation and how can i get rid of them once and for all... I cannot afford an exterminator. the reason that i am living in what is probbaly an infested infested apartment says much about my financial situation...

I've also seen like 3 silverfish but they aren't my main concern. Every old house/ apartment has those little guys.

  1. Centipedes are actually attracted to small bugs an algae that grow on the walls.  Keep the apt. as dry as possible  and humidity as low as possible  Wipe down the walls with a weak bleach solution to clean the walls and kill one of their food sources (algea).

Believe it or not, vacuuming is a very effective way to eliminate them too.  Vacuuming will clean up debris and also catch the silverfish (another  food source for centipedes) and bug eggs which could be around.

Lastly, buy some glue boards and put them by the baseboards.  They will catch some centipedes, an also let you know if you have any other critters there.  Good luck.

  2. I remember I had a pet centipede, when I was a kid.

It had one wooden leg. So I knew when it was coming.
