Question:

May i have been addicted to nicotine?

My parents have recently stopped smoking. Around the time they quit, i began to feel abdominal pain and chest pains, i haven't gone poo in awhile, so the belly pain is probably from the laxative effect nicotine has (i inhaled lots of second hand smoke)

My main concern is my chest pains, could it be from the nicotine, and i may have also been addicted?

  1. The chest pains very well could be because of the second hand smoke, my best advice would be wait a couple days and if it increases go see your doctor.

I don't think your addicted tho.  Unless your craving a cigarette i dont think you'd be addicted.

        *  Secondhand Smoke causes about 3,000 deaths each year from lung cancer in people who don´t smoke.

        * Secondhand Smoke causes irritation of the eyes, nose, and throat.

        * Secondhand Smoke can also irritate the lungs, leading to coughing, excessive phlegm and chest discomfort.

        * Secondhand Smoke has been linked with the onset of chest pain may affect the heart, according to some studies.

Also tell your parents about your health concerns, it will keep them encouraged and motivated to stay smoke free.

  2. yeah it can affect you, especially if they smoked inside the house, you could get hooked up too. dont smoke, those symptoms are gonna go away eventually.

  3. you should eat foods with garlic in it,i heard that it gets rid of second hand smoke in the body

  4. probably. you should go on the patch or something. nicorette is super addictive so be careful with that.

  5. You could if your worried or concerned visit your doctor or GP they can do tests to see!

  6. do not listen to emily what is super important is that you reduce inhailing second hand smoke

ignore the pains or see a docter

DO NOT use the patches if you are not adicted now they WILL make you adicted

the chest pains could be from the nicotene but most likly not

if they were from the nicotene it's nothing to worry about

if you are addiced witch youre not ( you would know if you were)

the do not get youre hands on a ciggerett it may be hard but do not

  7. No when you quit smoking you don't get chest pains.

You have constipation and indigestion take the appropriate medicines or see a doctor

  8. possibly

maybe you should see a doctor

  9. you are most likely not addicted to nicotine. the chest pains are some else all together, you should see a doctor like today!!!!!!!!!

  10. Well, what you described might be an addiction. Addiction is determined by 2 factors:

    a) physical dependence, and

    b) psychological dependence

Physical dependence is where the person physically experiences pain and/or inability to physically function when deprived of the substance, especially during withdrawal.

Psychological dependence is where the person feels they cannot perform certain actions without the drug, and that they need the drug to either maintain themselves or to stay awake. They might just need the drug to feel less depressed.

So, while I would definately see a doctor, the fact that you haven't taken up smoking now is a very good sign. I think you may be suffering slight withdrawal, but you aren't addicted until you light one up...

  11. wow i never knew second handers got the same deal as us! mmm u shud have some mint green tea to relieve ur tummy.. the chest pains will go away, u just havent had fresh air around for a while..breathe easy :)

  12. If you can't go to toilet it's called constipation !  you can

easily cure this by buying yourself a bag of prunes from the

    nearest supermarket.

As for other reasons of abdominal pain , your probably displaying

similar withdrawal symptoms....from secondary smoke inhalation.

Just ignore it as much as possible and also it is quite possible, although your sympathising  with your parents, you

would not be going through as much symptoms as they are.

  13. It's doubtful... Nicotine can really only effect you in that way if you personally smoke it. It's probably an unrelated infection.
