Prompt 1

Think carefully about the issue presented in the following excerpt and the assignment below.

It is better to try to be original than to merely imitate others. People should always try to say, write, think, or create something new. There is little value in merely repeating what has been done before. People who merely copy or use the ideas and inventions of others, no matter how successful they may be, have never achieved anything significant.

Assignment:

Is it always better to be original than to imitate or use the ideas of others? Plan and write an essay in which you develop your point of view on this issue. Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from your reading, studies, experience, or observations.

  1. 5. coudl of used more examples.oh nd if this wasnt a sat essy i would of said the person copied unless they were a techer themself.sorry but the words were liek a 20 to 60 yr old would write.

  2. A few stylistic errors, but in general a nicely written essay. Did you complete this in the time limit? It seems a little sophisticated under the time constraints.  Don't cheat yourself by cheating on the time limit when practicing or you'll get used to having more time and when test time comes you'll be unprepared.

    Some minor organization errrors.

Your last line of the first argument paragraphy (about robots) belongs in the second paragraph.

Avoid phrases like "such a". Too slangy. Sounds written by a teenager. Which you are, but you always want to strive for academic writing. This is an essay, not an email to your friends.

    Very good concrete historical examples.

Your last paragraph should be more of a conclusion, more of a wrap-up. It's almost another argument paragraph.

    I would give it a 5.
