  1. Neurons exist in a number of different shapes and sizes and can be classified by their morphology and function. The anatomist Camillo Golgi grouped neurons into two types; type1 with long axons used to move signals over long distances and type11 without axons. Type1 cells can be further divided by where the cell body or soma is located. The basic morphology of type1 neurons, represented by spinal motor neurons, consists of a cell body called the soma, a long thin axon which is covered by the myelin sheath, one end has a tree branch like dendritic tree that receives signals from other neurons, the other end has branching terminals that release transmitter secretions into an area called the gap junction between the terminals and the dendrites of next neuron.

The inner ear's functions are hearing and balance.

  2. Dendrite's accept signals which go through the cell body, down through the axons which are covered by Mylen sheath, the spaces in between are the Nodes of Ranvier. They then lead to the axon terminals.

    Inner ear, balance and hearing.
