Hey! I've completed my whole algebra worksheet by myself but I'm having troubles with this one equation...

-4/7 p = -8

If you could please show me how to do it step by step so I could learn, that would be great! Thank you so much!

  1. -4/7 p = -8

    Looking at the equation we see that both sides are negative and that there is a fraction.

    To get rid of this we multiply both sides by - 7.

    4p = 56

    dividing by 4

    p = 14

    This is a general way to solve equations with fractions.

    When there are two or more fractions with different denominators,

    we multiply by the lowest common denominator to get rid of the fractions. And if both sides are negative we multiply both sides by a negative.

    These are just some of the tricks good to know to make it easier to solve equations.

  2. Since -4/7 is multiplied by p, you need to divide by -4/7 to see what p is.  To divide by -4/7, flip it and multiply:

    7/-4 times -8/1 = -56/-4 which reduces to +14 so p = 14

  3. -4/7 p = -8-----------> multiply both side by -7

    4p = 56 --------> divided both side by 4

    p = 14

  4. -4/7 p = -8

    <=>

    4/7 p = 8

    <=>

    p=8/(4/7)

    <=>

    p=8 * (7/4)

    (when u divide a number by a fraction it is the same as if u multiply the number with the inverse of that fraction)

    <=>

    p= (8*7)/4

    <=>

    p= 56/4

    <=>

    p=14

  5. No problem, I'm having math issues too. To solve the equation, you need to multiply both sides of the problem by the opposite of the coefficient, -4/7. The opposite of -4/7 is -7/4. once you've multiplied both sides, you will have isolated p.

    => -7/4 * -4/7p = -8/1 * -7/4

    => p = 56/4

    => p =14

  6. Multiply both sides of the equation by t to get rid of the fraction:

    -4p = -56 - - ->Then divide both sides by -4:

    p = -56/-4

    p = 14

  7. -4/7 p = -8

    Multiply both sides times -7:

    4P = 56

    Divide both sides by 4:

    P = 14

  8. p = 8 * 7/4 = 14

  9. To isolate the p you have to divide it by -4/7.

    -8 divided by -4/7.

    You can flip the -4/7 and mulitply

    -8 * -7/4 = 56/4 then that reduces to 14.

    p=14

  10. divide -8 by negative four sevenths on each side

    -8/-4/7

    p=14

  11. -4/7p=-8

    (-7/4)(-4/7)p=-8(-7/4) multiply each side by the reciprocal of -4/7

    p=56/4 now simply it and you will get

    p=14

    to check subsitute p as 14

    -4/7(14)=-8

    -56/7=-8 now simply

    -8=-8
