Please explain the importance of knowing about the Mayan culture in Belize and rest of the Caribbean. I also want to know how they influenced Belize and the rest of the Caribbean. Like for example, their Maya ruins.

  1. in belize there are over two-dozen documented ancient Mayan linguistic groups in this area, three of which currently reside in Belize. The Maya currently make up about 10% of the population of Belize and include the Yucatec in the north near the Yucatan border, the Q'eqchi in the south, near Punta Gorda, and the Mopan, in western Belize near the border town of Benque Viejo del Carmen. the mayas are one of the first people to ever set foot in belize and however the blacks who are here are from the slaves which was brought by christopher columbus and the british.

Persisting over thousands of years of wars, natural disasters, colonialism, imperialism, and inner conflicts, the Mayans continue to thrive in Belize as the only indigenous people in the country.

the mayan ruins were their shelter and palaces for the "gods". however some say that it was used for ultimate sacrifice of human for rain and peace for the hurricane etc.

    hope i helped! :D
