  1. That's a pretty great tour.  I've been to Copan (on a dig) and I've driven to Palenque, Comalcalco, and Parc La Venta plus dozens of other sites throughout Mexico.  You can look at The Maya Traveler website, and they've got many smaller portions of your tour for less money.  But then you don't have the breadth and scope of your tour.  So if you've got the time and the money, I'd go with the tour in the link you gave--it'll be a great experience.

If you want to see Maya ruins on a budget, then I'd say you could fly into Cancun, rent a car and drive yourself around the Yucatan stopping at all the sites on the Yucatan map (second link).  But most of these sites are considered Post-Classic (after 900 AD), while the site on your tour are considered Classic Maya Period (250 AD to 900 AD).  If you're going to drive yourself, you'll need to know a little Spanish--enough to get a room, order a meal and ask directions. Plus you'll have to do plenty of research to understand what your looking at--all the information that the tour guides will give you.

I'm envious of you if you go on that trip.
