Maya Moore steers Minnesota Lynx to an 89-74 win over Tulsa Shock - WNBA Recap
Minnesota Lynx forward Maya Moore netted 19 of her 28 points in second frame, leading Lynx to an 89-74 victory over Tulsa Shock.
Lynx had 4 players in double figures including Maya, who also had 11 boards, while her 2nd quarter 19 points helped Lynx to pull a 70-52 lead by the end of 1st half. The 19 point performance was also a franchise
high.
“Teams are going to compete and fight as hard as they can”. Moore said. “If we continue to push and push, hopefully we'll wear them out and break them down, and that's what we tried to do.''
Seimone Augustus and Monica Wright scored 14 points each for Minnesota, while Lindsay Whalen recorded 11 points and 8 assists for Lynx, who after a mini slump have got back to their winning ways.
On the other hand, Glory Johnson netted a game high 30 points to go with 14 boards for Shock, while Riquna Williams collected 11 points coming off the bench. No other played managed to score in double figures for Shock, who lost
their second game in a row.
Midway into the opening frame Lynx were having an 11-4 lead, but could only stretch it down to 15-6 when Shock came up with a huge 15-5 spurt for a 21-20 lead. Wright came up with a layup at the death and allowed Minnesota to reclaim
the lead.
The game remained close in the 2nd frame and with 7:15 in hand the scores were tied at 31 apiece. Moore came up with a layup which initiated a huge 21-2 run, as Minnesota roared to a 52-33 advantage. Lynx closed the
first half at 55-38.
The 17 points lead allowed Lynx to cruise through the third. Inside the first four minutes, they pushed their lead to 20 points. Shock tried to harness the lead but there was no stopping Minnesota and as the game entered into its
last 10 minutes, they were having a 70-52 lead.
Lynx reeled off a 14-4 run early in the decisive frame and stretched their advantage to 84-56. Tulsa reeled off an 18-5 burst in response, but it was already too late by then.
