Mayakoba gets decorated with the remains of golf
The elite of golf has undoubtedly gathered, in Arizona, for World Match Play, but simultaneously underway Mayakoba Classic, in Mexico, is also turning out to be the ground of entertainment.
The line-up of the event has been decorated with players like Johnson Wagner, Mike Weir, Greg Norman and Ryder Cup Captain Jose Maria Olazabal.
Wagner emerged as the winner of Sony Open held in Hawaii in January and is completely prepared to maintain his winning streak this time as well.
Norman, who has also been the chief designer of the course at Mayakoba, will also be teeing it off. His campaign opening encounter will take place against Wagner.
According to pundits, Norman being the designer of the course knows the dynamics of the course better than anyone. He will surely be able to capitalise on this knowledge.
However, at the same time, Norman recently underwent a shoulder surgery due to which he will be participating in the event with no idea as to how he will perform.
He did acknowledge his disbelief when he said, "I don't know how well I'll play."I'm finally starting to feel healthy again. I had surgery on my left shoulder a year ago and now I've got my strength back I feel like I can go out there".
Norman last appeared at the Humana Challenge after which he had to undergo surgery.
Ryder Cup Captain Olazabal, unfortunately, also accommodates himself among the injured squad because of his regularly occurring rheumatic pains.
However, it is worth mentioning here that he has been a part of four successive events of the European Tour.
Nevertheless, his most notable achievement this entire season has been the sixth position he acquired at the Volvo Championship in South Africa.
Hence, the Ryder Cup skipper is searching for a mandatory breakthrough. "Certain moments it looked a little bit like the old days," he said.
Apart from all these, Mike Weir will also be teeing it off in Mexico after a long time. The golfer could not participate in Pebble Beach event because of his elbow surgery.
Adding to his woes was the cancellation of his sponsorship exemption for the Northern Trust. However, at Mayakoba he is ready to give everyone a tough time.
