Mayakoba provides Nick Price with the desperately required breakthrough
For Nick Price it was a good solid day. He was able to get a firm start in the first round of play at the Mayakoba Golf Classic.
The South African-Zimbabwean golfer has finally been able to get the much needed breakthrough. Nick is already 2-under par at the end of the first round play.
This provides him with a much stable position to Will Claxton, who had a single shot lead in the event.
Talking to pgatour.com, Nick was happy to comment, “Just every now and then I've been throwing in a bad round and I've been trying not to get depressed because I'm having more good golf than bad golf, which is a good thing”.
From the very beginning of the play, Nick came in as a heavy contender. Making his first hole on the 10th, he teed it off smartly to land the ball in the water.
Irrespective of the quality of the shot, he was able to secure four points for it. He was particularly happy at the end of the day’s play, with a score of 69 on the board.
Price also added that it is the wind direction that can pose a serious threat to golfers, especially when they aim their shot.
However, the design of the golf course adds to golfers’ convenience, especially in helping them make their strategy, when and how to tee it off as effectively as possible.
The 55-year-old golfer is aiming his best to compete with his opponents. Ranked as World No. 1 in the mid-1990, Nick regards Wagner to be his key opponent in the event.
Nevertheless, the probability of other players like Will Claxton and Greg Norman performing well in the event cannot be sidelined.
Experts believe that with Price performing persistently well in the event, he will definitely be able to make a commendable position at Mayakoba.
According to Price, it is always good to see some friends teeing it off with you. It is good to see players who have been away from the course for a while.
Competing with them is always an entertainment, as it adds a wave of excitement to the game on the whole.
