  1. Stop believing in that rubbish. XD

  2. there are still Indians like modern Guatemalans and Mexicans etc. that still use their calendar like any other astrology handbook, and no its not the end of the world

  3. They never actually predicted that the world was going to end.  2012 is just when their calender stopped, it's just coincidental, then their civilization died therefore they could not plan out any more year of the calender.  Hope I helped.

  4. maybe they did, maybe they didnt. when the europeans came over they destroyed most of the mayan artifacts because ofcourse being christian they viewed the mayan's religious beliefs as "the devil". then tried to convert them to christianity. so we have very little artifacts left to teach us about them and their culture.

but they did have a pretty amazing knowledge of astronomy. many of their astronomical predictions have come true. they predicted an eclipse and were right about it and i think (not 100% positive) they predicted a tsunami or somethin. and the planets actually will align with the center of the galaxy on 12/21/12, which is where they believed h**l was.

here is a documentary from the history channel about it.

(just take out the space between you & tube.)

  5. I'm not sure, but I'm still hoping the Mayans were good astronomers and just ended the calendar on the day the Sun would align with the Milky Way...

  6. 1.  Not everyone says the end of the world is 2012.  In fact, most people are intelligent enough to know it cannot be.

    2.  The Mayans did NOT predict the end of the world for 2012.

    3.  The Long Count calendar (a day-count calendar similar to our own Julian Day calendar) arrives at the end of a Long Count and begins a new one.  The Long Count was planned so that the change would correspond with the Sun and the December solstice position being in the middle of the Milky Way band.

    4.  The Mayans did not use the Long Count calendar for their day-to-day lives.  Like us, they had a common calendar.  Mayan astronomers, who did use it, left writings describing astronomical events that will take place after the year we call 2012.  They use the Long Count calendar to give the dates.  Obviously, they expected neither the world nor their calendar to end.

    5.  Comets often hit Earth.  They are loose assemblages of ice and rock and they explode at very high altitude (unlike asteroids, they can't stand the shock of entering the atmosphere).

    6.  There is no special alignment of planets in 2012.  At all.  Not on December 21, not on any other day.  And the Mayan astronomers would have been able to know that.  The History channel aired a rubbish documentary on purpose.

  7. Scientists don't expect anything out of the ordinary to happen in the year 2012, or specifically on the date December 21, other than the solstice, which happens every year.

None of the "predicted" happenings for 2012 hold up under close scrutiny. "Planet X" and "Nibiru" simply don't exist. The Mayan calendar ends a cycle, but there were no predictions of the end of the world. The Sun doesn't line up with the galactic centre; it's 6 degrees off. No asteroids or comets are actually predicted to hit Earth.

All of this stuff was put together by crackpots in order to promote their books and TV shows, and shamelessly promoted by the History Channel. Don't take any of it seriously!

  8. no mayan ever said 'the world will end in 2012'... or that the world would end period....

they said 2012 will be a year of great change, good luck prediciting what could happen tho... there are theories, but there are still a million other things that COULD happen....

the destruction of the earth is just how we interpretued their words.... we dont' have anyone here to tell us exactly what their writings mean... h**l we barely have anything about them at all anymore...

between death and the spanish converting them (everything from religion to language) nearly all traces of the empire, and it's beliefs are gone.

"I'm not sure, but I'm still hoping the Mayans were good astronomers and just ended the calendar on the day the Sun would align with the Milky Way..."

not likely... it's been shown we come relatively close to this galactic allignement 2 times a year... what maKes this one so special really?

i don't claim to know what's gonna happen, but... i'm paying attention...
