Maybank Malaysian Open suspended due to rain – Asian Tour News
The Maybank Malaysian Open has been suspended due to heavy rains early in the morning today. All the top players were waiting for their tee off as the tournament committee decided to stop the event until conditions improved.
The third round of the tournament seemed to produce excitement as the spectators already gathered around the clubhouse to watch their favourite players tee off from the first tee. The organisers had to face a problem of the heavy rains due to which there
was water all over the course.
It will certainly be a challenge for the organisers as already there has been a three hour delay. The leaders Rory McIlroy and Alexander Noren, paired with each other and were ready to unleash their game on the course. They were disappointed when they heard
the news that they will be having a late tee time.
This is a challenge for the tournament committee as the second round yesterday was also abandoned. There was lightning on the course due to which players were called back in the clubhouse.
As the tournament continues, nature has played its’ role. It was a bit overcast on the second day as rain was expected. The players who failed to complete their rounds on the second day were seen practicing on the range.
McIlroy dominated on the second day. He carded a fantastic round of eight-under par, 64 which included no bogey. This was another great performance by the young Irishman, as he joined the overnight leader Noren after the second round.
The top ranked player Martin Kaymer looked a bit out of sorts. He is placed tied at the 25th spot along with other players.
Some of the players had to finish their second round on the third day, as play was started for the contenders to finish their second round.
Now, as there was a three hour delay by the committee, they had to change the tee times of all the players. The course conditions on the third day will be a bit soft due to the heavy rain which poured on the course.
