Maybank Malaysian Open winner Matteo Manassero improves world ranking – Golf news
Young Italian sensation Matteo Manassero, who grabbed his second European Tour title when he won the Maybank Malaysian Open 2011 recently, has improved his world rankings to 33rd.
This was a great victory for the youngster who was in contention after he had a fantastic first round. The 17-year-old, who turned his status to professional a year back, has now his eyes set on being ranked among the top ten golfers of the world.
It was a field of the top ranked players in Malaysia. The notable names were of world number one Martin Kaymer and Masters champion Charl Schwartzel. Manassero managed his own way to the victory and was overwhelmed with his powerful hitting.
The teenager played some promising golf during all the four rounds. He also became the youngest player to win the Malaysian Open. It was another achievement for the youngster in his early days. He did not appear under any kind of pressure on the final day
and successfully carded a final round of four-under par, 68 to lift the championship trophy.
Manassero has already stunned the world with his age and the way he hits the ball. The youngster is equally as good as the top ranked players in the world and would be eyeing to bag more titles in his career.
This was his second win playing on the European circuit within a couple of months. The top ranked players were truly stunned by the way this youngster performed. He had under par rounds on all the four days which led him to victory.
Matteo will be enjoying his 18th birthday on Tuesday. Winning the Malaysian Open was a perfect gift for the teenager. This victory could not have come at a better time in his career.
He has broken many records at his tender age. Manassero is currently placed at his career-high, 33rd spot in the official golf world rankings. The teenagers’ countrymen Francesco and Edoardo Molinari also praised the efforts of their compatriot.
It was truly a great sight at the prize distribution ceremony of the Malaysian Open as the teenager picked up the trophy. He also grabbed the winner’s cheque of US$ 416,660.
Matteo said, “It’s fantastic. To have another title two days before my 18th birthday, it’s a great achievement. I will also be looking at altering my playing schedule now that I may be inside the world top 50.”
After the win, Manassero is placed at the 11th spot on the Race to Dubai rankings.
