Maybank shocks Tenaga Nasional Berhad by 2-1 in the Premier Division of the Malaysian Hockey League in Bukit Jalil
Maybank scored an impressive victory over Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) of 2-1 in the Malaysian Hockey League (MHL) Premier Division at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Friday, October 7.
Maybank easily swept off TNB, although the latter is considered to be one of the better teams of the Premier Division of MHL.
Maybank gave perhaps one of the biggest shocks to its opponents in a well fought battle of hockey.
With their defeat, the dreams of TNB to finish at second spot after KLHC were also shattered.
KLHC is sitting atop the points table with 21 points, followed by Sapura with 18 points and TNB with 16 points.
The match was played in a tight mode where both the teams, especially TNB, created a number of goal scoring opportunities but failed to make full use of those chances.
Although TNB took the early lead, it could not hold its nerves until the end and eventually, Maybank stole the show in fine style.
Both teams played an aggressive game throughout the entire seventy minutes where they exhibited good stick work along with fine dribbling skills. However, luck sided with Maybank and left TNB short of one strike.
The first half started with an action by the TNB side when they took hold of the match midway with Faisal Saari opening the account in the 17th minute by scoring his 14th goal of the season.
Maybank, however, took only three minutes to level the terms when Hairul Nizam Abdul Rani made no mistake to avail a penalty corner in the 20th minute. The first half ended at level.
The second half was even tougher as compared to the first one as 66 percent of the time went by scoreless.
Maybank once again ticked the score board in the latter part of the second half when Mohd Zulhairi Hashim converted another penalty corner into the deciding goal of the match that lasted till the end.
The match concluded at 2-1 in favour of Maybank.
