About a month ago i read that brushing your teeth with some baking soda can make them whiter. I tried it, and it worked wonders. I still do every day, but I was wondering if brushing your teeth with baking soda can be harmful to your teeth after a while. I really dont want to go out and spend the money on teeth whiteners that barely work, but I will if baking soda is bad for teeth

  1. Baking soda is making you teeth whiter. True

But remember baking soda has lot of hard microscopic particles which errode or abrade your teeth. Which is very bad for your teeth.

Get you teeth bleached by Zoom 2. You will see the difference

  2. Yes baking soda in toothpastes can help make your teeth whiter but that's only because the baking soda particles are very abrasive and so wear away any stains on your teeth. However, the baking soda can also wear away the enamel on your teeth, especially if you brush hard or drink a lot of fizzy drinks which can make your enamel soft allowing the baking soda to wear away the soft enamel easier. I have used it in the past and found yes that it is effective but then since coming to dental school ive changed to Colgate Total and just eaten less staining foods. Works just as well for me anyway

  3. You can try posting your question on www.identalhub.com. They have facility of Free Consultation by Dentist. I tried twice and they they gave me satisfactory answer

  4. I can't answer about the baking soda, but I can say from experience I used the over the counter whitening stuff. I never had a cavity in my life, any dentist I ever had said I did a good job taking care of my teeth. Long story short the products I had been using damaged the enamel on my teeth, my teeth ae now sensitive and I ended up with a few cavaties.
