Maybe wins the Grade 2 Keeneland Stakes at Curragh which sets her up as a 7 to 2 favourite for the next season’s QIPCO 1,000 Classic
The 2-year-old bay filly, Maybe, edges out Discourse in the market for the next year’s QIPCO 1,000 Guineas, as she goes 7 to 2 favourite for the race after a 2 ½ length victory In the Group 2 Keeneland Debutante Stakes for 2 year old fillies at the Curragh
on 7 August, 2011.
The race is run at a distance of 7 furlongs, and the Aidan O’Brien trained Maybe, was sent at the odds of 8 to 1 when the day started for the next May’s QIPCO fixture.
After the filly’s comprehensive victory in the Grade 2 Keeneland Stakes, she got trimmed down to 7 to 2. Under jockey J O’Brien, the filly started off slow and the jockey was content to keep the pace off.
The same pace continued up till 2 furlongs out and the pair picked it on just to keep the hopes alive, and hope Maybe outruns the rest of the lot to cross the wire.
Dermot Weld trained Yellow Rosebud, sent at the odds of 7 to 1 under jockey P Smullen, stayed at the rear to begin with, and the then turned it around to push on the outside.
There the filly found some day light which the jockey P Smullen exploited and made some headway into the 4th position 1 furlong out.
Maybe soon asserted her authority on the race as she picked up pace and her strides became longer and faster as the wire grew closer. Left behind Yellow Rosebud comfortably and defeated her rival by 2 ½ lengths.
Meanwhile, Yellow Rosebud was kept under pressure by Lightening Pearl who was the 16 to 1 favourite at the beginning of the race, but Yellow Rosebud edged out to assume the second place as she gave up hope for the winner, because there was no chance.
G Lyons trained Lightening Pearl finished third, Rubina fourth and Remember Alexander, Soon, Redoutable, Chieftess and Teolane completed the order of finish.
The daughter of Galileo Maybe won the Chesham Stakes back in 18 June, 2011, at the Royal Ascot.
In a field of 16 horses, the filly kept in touch and she always travelling at a nice pace under jockey Ryan Moore. She led the field with 2 furlongs to go on a 7 furlong event, ridden hands and heels as she asserted her position and won the race by 2 ¼ lengths.
Maybe is 4 of 4 in her first year of horse racing, and already a graded stakes winner, Her first graded stakes victory came in the Grade 3 Silver Flash Stakes at Leopardstown on 14 July, 2011.
Maybe has plenty more races to go in her career, but with a flawless record she has gone on to increase her earnings by £117,157.
