Maybeagrey to stamp the John Smith’s Redcar Straight-Mile Championship (Handicap) (Qualifier) at Redcar
Redcar is to host the Class 5 John Smith’s Redcar Straight-Mile Championship (Handicap) (Qualifier), over a mile, on Monday, 2nd April. The race carrying a £2,264 purse will be contested by ten runners.
Surprisingly, it is only Maybeagrey who has raced once at Redcar and that too was during the previous season.
Shamardal’s three-year-old bay filly out of mare Grey Again, Maybeagrey was extraordinarily successful during the last two races of the previous season.
On 1st November, 2011, Maybeagrey ended third in the British Stallion Studs Supporting British Racing EBF Maiden Stakes (Division II) at Redcar, over seven furlongs.
The race title was taken away by Personal Touch who was coupled with Paul Hanagan.
Peter Anders was the 8/11 favourite runner-up of the race, followed by Maybeagrey.
It has been a while since she raced at the same race course where she is invited again today, but the next two races that she captured do state a lot about her potential to swing back into form in this race.
She won the £32 Free At 32Red.Com Nursery on 28th November, 2011, at Wolverhampton, over a mile and half a furlong.
She shoved the 15/8 favourite of the race, Frederickthegreat, into the runner up’s position as she led the field by two lengths.
Dutchman’s Field was the third candidate to race through the wire after the runner-up.
She then did justice to be entered as the evening’s favourite in the Toteexacta Nursery, by keeping the feverishly closing in threat, Quixote, at a shoulder’s margin.
Concluding the race third was Stag Hill.
Maybeagrey’s luck refused to accompany her in the new season as she stumbled on to the fourth position in the Wolverhampton-Racecourse.Co.UK Handicap on 16th January, at Wolverhampton, over a mile and half a furlong.
The race was won by the evening’s favourite, Karma Chameleon, soon followed by the runner-up, New Decade.
She will of course put in all the effort to post a victory in her second start of the season.
There are a few who will be racing their seasonal debut today and would come with full force to claim the race.
