Mayor of London Boris Johnson enjoys watching the Olympic Road Race
Boris Johnson holds the honour of being a Mayor for one of the finest cities on the face of the earth, London.
London is now-a-days hosting one of the biggest sporting events of the year, the 2012 Olympic Games currently on under his administration.
Johnson enjoyed watching the men’s Olympic road race on Saturday where he was cheering Mark Cavendish and company for the gold.
However, Alexandre Vinokourov of Team Kazakhstan came out strongest and occupied the top spot with Rigoberto Uran Uran (Colombia) and Alexander Kristoff (Norway) holding the second and the third spots in the respective order.
With many stars from the recent Tour de France winning side, Team Sky, the British team could not secure any better than the 29th position as Mark Cavendish finished almost 40 seconds behind the race leader.
Nevertheless, Boris enjoyed the terrific show and admired Vinokourov’s gold-winning performance.
“I thought it was wonderful, brilliant," he cited.
"Team GB are coming back, they're coming back. I thought it was brilliant and we'll see what happens in the days ahead. I thought they did brilliantly, I couldn't go that fast."
Almost one million spectators attended the Olympics Men Road Race and the atmosphere was electrifying as explained by Johnson.
"It was immense. I think it was the biggest sporting event, the crowds were enormous and it shows the growing popularity of cycling".
He also attended the race’s opening ceremony held on Friday as James Bond [Daniel Craig] jumped out of the helicopter with the Queen marking her television performance.
"I was blubbering like a baby from the beginning and I thought it was absolutely brilliant and the most stupefying thing I've seen for a very long time. I was still dreaming about it this morning”.
Boris is looking ahead at a smooth Olympics event and is busy with the organisers to ensure he leaves no stones unturned in order to make the full of such an important opportunity of hosting the Olymnpics.
