Mayson aces the Connaught Access Flooring Abernant Stakes at Newmarket
Mayson showed what he is really made of, as he secured a victory for his trainer Richard Fahey, and owner, David W. Armstrong, in the Connaught Access Flooring Abernant Stakes (Listed Race) at Newmarket on 19th February, 2012.
The son of Invincible Spirit, out of Mayleaf, raced with a chance of 4 to 1, and made steady headway through the race.
Jockey Paul Hanagan guided the bay colt well and helped him secure the well-deserved victory.
The four-year-old colt was the most prominent runner on the field, whose steady progression earned a victory for him, as he finished 3 ½ lengths ahead of the Clive Cox trained, Jimmy Styles.
Richard Fahey, reflected on his runner’s performance after the race and stated to the press that: "He's quite talented, although if you looked at his form you might not think so," he further added that: "He hasn't had that many runs and he had a setback
at three - I think he can still improve."
Internationaldebut, who is owned by A. Taylor Junior, and currently under the training of Paul Midgley, finished third by a marginal difference of 1 ½ lengths, whereas the fourth place was acquired by the Ian Semple trained bay gelding, Cheviot.
Genki, who is the son of Shinko Forest, out of Emma´s Star, failed to impress despite his strong odds to win the race.
The eight-year-old raced as a favourite, as the punters gave sent him with the winning odds of 3 to 1.
Trained by Roger Charlton, he lacked speed and fell seven lengths behind the victor.
The chestnut gelding that was whelped on 30th January, 2004, was mounted by jockey, George Baker yesterday. The form of this runner is being doubted, as he has not secured a placed position in his last six starts.
This seasonal debut was not a good start for him, but he may show late development in the season.
The race was an exciting affair as most of the runners secured their finishes by narrow margins. With his terrific victory, Mayson will now have an opportunity to compete in the Duke of York Stakes.
