Mayson and Definightly face off again in the Duke Of York Totepool Stakes
Richard Hannon will be represented by two of his best runners, Libranno and Elnawin in the Duke Of York Totepool Stakes, which is scheduled to take place on 16th May, 2012, at York.
It is a big opportunity for these two runners to score a victory for their diligent trainer.
Elnawin, the six-year-old bay gelding looks in good shape, as he has already won twice, and he will try his level best to secure the third one.
The son of Elnadim, out of mare, Acicula, will be making a great comeback this year, as he has not competed since June, 2011, when he landed the victory over the William Haggas trained, High Standing, by 8 lengths in the Bridget Swire's Palace Affair
& Sakhee's Secret Cathedral Stakes at Salisbury.
With reference to this race, the trainer stated that: "Elnawin has been off with injury since he won by eight lengths at Salisbury last June, and he will probably need this comeback race."
Libranno’s performance is expected to be better than his performance in the seasonal debut, when he managed to finish fifth in the Bet365 Mile on 27th April, 2012 at Sandown.
Richard Hannon junior, the trainer’s son is looking optimistic about his performance at York as he commented that:
"It was barely raceable at Sandown, where Libranno disappointed last time, but we know he is better than that and six furlongs suits him as well as seven."
The class 1 race will cover a distance of six furlongs on a track where the surface has been labelled good, which increases Hannon’s confidence about his runners ability to show their full potential on the track.
Mayson, the four-year-old colt, who is under the training of Richard Fahey, will aim to perform an encore of his previous performance, when he crushed the competition in the Pearl Bloodstock Palace House Stakes (Group 3) at Newmarket earlier this month,
and landed a narrow victory over, Definightly.
Definightly will be looking to take revenge on Mayson, as he is also included in the line-up for this race as the trainee of Roger Charlton will definitely try to trump this race.
With such a strong line-up, the connections are on their toes, hoping that their runners will excel.
