Maytag Microwave MMV5207AAQ

We have small holes burned into the liner finish all around the metal rack. In looking at the metal rack, it has burn marks as well. Is the microwave safe to use and how can fix this problem? I had a repair man come in and he wanted to paint over the burn area and sell me a new rack. Is this a common problem with Maytag?
