Maytag Neptune front loader washing machine won't lock door?

My 2000 Maytag Neptune front loader washing machine cannot set the door lock. It makes a buzzing sound as if it's trying to lock the door, but it just can't lock it. Consequently, the spin cycle cannot engage to spin the water out of the clothes.

I had the electronics panel replaced in 2002 due to a problem with the spin cycle. Evidently this was a flaw in the model I bought. After that, the machine could be considered a 2002 model according to Maytag.

Has this problem (door lock) happened to you? If so, how much was the repair cost? Our warranty just expired last month. That figures, right?!

I gotta wonder if the warranty people send a signal to disrupt properly working machines when the owners refuse to further extend their warranties. LOL

I cannot advise you on cost of repair but I can tell you that you should call Maytag 1-800 number. Since it is so close to the warranty period, they may be able to offer you what is called a concession. They may offer to pay part of the cost on parts and or labor. They frequently did that for me (as a warranty repair depot).  Since you have had repair issues in the past, it gives you a bit of leverage. Maytag believes in looking after their customers. That was, at least before they got bought out by whirlpool. Give them a try.
