Question:

Maytag refrigerator/freezer. Blower stopped working several days, then started!?

I had a Sears repairman come out when I first noticed it was no longer freezing items. He said the blower was shot (second time in 7 years!). It would cost $350+ to repair. I ordered a new refrigerator/freezer. Woke up this morning and the #%@&! blower is now working! Freezer is working. Everything working. What's up? Will it stay working?? We have had several very brief power outages recently. Any connection? Also, the compressor always worked. Just the blower was out.

  1. Check to see if the back panel of the freezer is frosted up. If so, your defrost system needs a repair. If not, check this site to see if you can spot your problem -

  2. It could be a number of things.

    1. The power outages (though would take a brownout) could be it, but then you compressor would probably see the same problem.

    2. If you open your door alot the problem could be condensation entering your freezer and accumulating on the fan blades. This could potentially lock up the fan and burn out the motor with due time.

    3. I have only seen this once, so this one may be a shot in the dark.  You could have bad power coming from the refrigerator outlet.  Depending on the voltage at the outlet it should be within 5% of the presumed output. ie if the outlet is a 220v a meter should read 209 to 231v. But again a voltage variance this high should affect the compressor as well.

    Hope this helps.
