Maytag washer won't spin.?

Question

model number: mav6451aww will fill with water but won't spin. It will drain too but it won;t spin the clothes. I just bought it in April of 2007. What's wrong with it?

Sounds like a faulty lid switch. If the machine is not recognizing that the lid is closed, it will not allow it to spin. It is a safety feature so that you arent reaching in there during spin and getting your arm broken or yanked off.

Sounds like it could be almost anything, the best thing to do is call

a repairman and get it checked out.

I just had this same problem with my Maytag Neptune washing machine.  Not only would it not go through the spin cycle, but it leaked water all over my floor.  After several attempts by the Maytag certified repairmen, it was determined the cost of a new gear box and seals exceeded the price of a new machine, so I got a new washing machine free of charge....thanks to my extended warranty.  It was a mess to get that far though.....about 3 weeks from beginning to end.
