A question previously asked got me thinking about Mayweather's career. Many people think that Floyd actually lost to Jose Luis Castillo in their first fight. (I'm one of them) What do you think would have happened to his career if it was considered a lost for Mayweather? Please be detailed.

  1. Mayweather is the king of playing it safe. Roger Mayweather said in an interview "Man, me and Floyd "mumble mumble" wee's sit and watch hours of taped footage on fighters and dissect their styles trying to find the one that best fits his style "mumble mumble" (Incoherent)  Then the interviewer was like "So you hand pick opponents?" and Roger" sais intelligently "Wha? no man, you don't get how good Floyd is, he great yams and yams "mumble mumble".

Thats exactly what Mayweather did, he picked opponents usually slower, strait forward punchers he could easily out maneuver and run from to win decisions, or hit them so much he could stop them or force the ref to stop it.

He wanted no part of Kostya Tszyu in early 2000, and Zab was calling him out for years, he kept avoiding Zab untill Zab got beat by Cory Spinks, then talks started between the two camps, if he won the rematch with Spinks he was in line to fight Mayweather, but when he did win Mayweather avoided him again until he lost to Baldomir, then Mayweather agreed to fight him and Zab gave him all he could handle.

Then he avoided Shane Mosley who had been calling him out. He wanted to no part of Cotto, Margarito or Williams, took a fight with Oscar only because he was going to make 20 million to do so. Oscar was fighting once a year at this point, and for some reason Oscar abandoned his jab which was winning him the fight until he stopped using it. He probably figured if he loses bu Decision there's big money in a rematch, if he knocks Floyd out another big pay day goes down the drain. But Floyd fucked him and retired.

So yea you defiantly cannot say Mayweathet is great when comparing him to guys Like Leonard, Robinson, Duran, Hagler, Chavez, ext ext. These guys didn't retire when they were 30 because there was always another challenge they wanted to prove them selves against.

Money Mayweather, your d**n right, thats all he was about. He obviously does not care about his legacy so Im certainly not going to defend it.

  2. He thinks he is the greatest boxer ever lived because he had not experienced a lose. He also think that boxing will not be fun without him. If Mayweather wants to be recognized as one of the greats in a legitimate passion, he shouldn't retired especially right now, there are numerous great boxers in the Welterweight Division.

  3. Not a lot. Floyd biggest prize is being 39-0 that is it. and that is the one thing that peole don't understand is that beang undefeated doesn't mean as much if you lose to a great fighter. look at leonard and his loses, oscar delahoya and his. people have more respect for a fighter who loses valiently it shows his toughness and strentgh. if floyd would have lost i think he would have had a stronger hunger to show his true greatness and would have fought Kotza, Frietas, and eventually Cotto and maybe he might have not ended up 39-0 but he would have had the love and respect of the boxing community

  4. pretty much wut everyone else sed.

  6. It's sad, the Cotto fans cant come to grips. It's not the end of the world but Cotto thought it was. I like Castillo and one of my best fighters but he want take away Cotto L. More out cry's. What do PBF has to do with Cotto L? Now, Rito is a tough guy but Williams want a rematch and I haven't herd Rito say anything about Williams. Arum lost his sweet heart and don't want to lose another one. Arum is ducking the deal and he don't have to fight. Oscar is another one of my greats. Oscar said he wanted the winner and Williams did too. It's funny how Rito was so quick to respond to Oscar and not Williams. Let me see, it's a money thing. I thought he was the most feared man and will fight anyone. I thought money wasn't a issue but now it is.

  7. seriously...if he would have lost to castillo (who is a bum now looked terrible on espn last week..poor guy)....he would have won the rematch like he did and continued to win like he did.

  8. he would still ahve a respectable career. people thaught he lost that first fight so he took it agani and won. just like loanard lost to duran adn beat him the second time just like ali lostto frazier and beat him the second time

  9. what would have happened if AIL got beat buy G Foreman or lost the 2nd with Smoking Joe? or got beat by Sunny liston  or had the look of the Gods when in with Henry Cooper...Sugar Ray len...What would have happened if the gave Haggler the win witch was the rite result also in the Hearns fight as he to won but got the wrong result all so....

He would of been beat like all the greats. no diffrant the it was...

he got tho that fight with a broken hand but thats boxing and a win is a win...

  10. He would of been a nobody if he didn't fight Oscar. In my opinion he never deserved to call himself the pound for pound fighter. He ducked way to many fighters and in my opinion he was a better business man that a boxer. So he would not of had any media attention if he had at least one loss.
