Mayweather: Miguel Cotto fought his a*s off – Boxing News
After a spectacular fight against Miguel Cotto, Floyd Mayweather finally spoke his heart out. According to Mayweather, Cotto has been the toughest opponent he has faced in the ring yet. The unbeaten American who successfully defended his streak, praised
Cotto for putting up a tough fight. Cotto had his WBA (Super) Light Middleweight title on the line against the American great, which he lost unfortunately. However, Cotto did prove the fact that Mayweather is not that good after all.
The fight which had Mayweather bleeding from his nose and mouth, was initially dominated by Cotto. By round 6, Cotto was in charge until Mayweather made a comeback to finally win the fight with a unanimous decision.
After the fight, when asked, Mayweather said, “Tonight we gave the fans what they wanted to see. We matched the best with the best. Cotto was a very tough competitor and he won some rounds. He pushed me to the limits and this is what it’s all about. Miguel
Cotto fought his a*s off tonight and I want to congratulate him and his team. You’ve seen me in flashy cars, but I want you to know that I do give back to the community. This is what it’s all about. It’s not about making a lot of money. It’s about giving back.
I don’t want be on TV and not give you guys [the fans and media] what you deserve.”
Mayweather added that Cotto is a good puncher and that is why he has won 30 fights in his career. Mayweather even said that this was the first fight Cotto had at the weight he is comfortable at. He then said that according to him this fight was amazing because
fans enjoyed it more than ever and that is what he cares about the most.
Mayweather admitted that his right hooks and uppercuts worked on Cotto. He said Cotto was in the right shape but uppercuts and right hooks have always taken him down even in his previous fights against Shane Mosley and Zab Judah.
Finally, the still unbeaten WBC welterweight and now the WBA (Super) Light Middleweight champion said that he could have made it an easy fight but he was looking forward to a knockout which Cotto did not allow since he was in good shape.
