Mayweather Sr. trains Nick Diaz for the bout with Georges St. Pierre at UFC 143 – UFC News
According to reports, mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter, Nick Diaz, is trying to secure a deal with Floyd Mayweather, Sr., ahead of his fight with Georges St. Pierre. The 28-year old American MMA fighter Diaz, is scheduled to face
Canadian MMA fighter Georges St. Pierre in February next year.
The two great fighters will step in the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s (UFC) octagon fight ring on February 4, 2012 at UFC 143. Their bout is already creating hype and MMA division is expecting their fight to be one of the most
anticipated and exciting fights in the history of the MMA and probably the UFC.
The 30-year old Georges St. Pierre won the Undisputed UFC Welterweight Championship at UFC 83 in April 2008 when he defeated Matt Serra through a technical knockout. Currently, Pierre is going on a winning streak, which he began
in 2007. In August 2007, he won the fight against Josh Koscheck through a unanimous decision at UFC 74. Since then he has won nine straight bouts where his recent one coming at UFC 129 in April 2011 when he defeated Jake Shields.
Pierre has also been successfully defending his UFC Welterweight Championship. At UFC 129 he defended his title for the sixth straight time. His successive title wins is now a world record as Pierre has become the only MMA fighter
in UFC history to have been able to defend his title six times.
His opponent, Nick Diaz, would have felt highly intimidated, which is why he asked Mayweather Sr. to train him for his fight. The only reason of concern for Diaz would be the concrete stance with which Pierre has been defending
his title and claiming victories upon victories over the years. Mayweather Sr. is pleased with how his trainer, Diaz, has been performing. He said, “I see a lot of things I like in Nick," Mayweather Sr. said. "After 30 days of training, he's going to be unbelievable.”
Both fighters have a great resume under the belt with consecutive wins but Diaz’s decision to get training from Mayweather Sr. is also justifiable, as he wants to get ahead of Pierre. Talking about their MMA careers, Diaz has won
26 fights with 7 loses and a single fight ending a draw. On the other hand, Pierre has won 22 fights, lost 2 where none of his fights were ended in a draw. Although Diaz has won more fights than Pierre but has lost more than Pierre has. Diaz would expect to
get agility and power in his fighting stance so he could make an impact when Pierre meets him at UFC 143.
