Mayweather: There is really no one for me to fight anymore – Boxing News
After defeating Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto on Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, the current WBC welterweight WBA (Super) Light Middleweight champion Floyd Mayweather believes he has fought the best and there is no one else he wishes to fight.
Mayweather had the toughest fight of his career against Cotto, and now chances are he is considering retirement.
During the fight, Cotto was heavier than ever and there were times when it seemed like Mayweather was unable to handle him. Not many expected Mayweather to be the one bleeding from his nose and mouth by the end of the game while Cotto looked untouched. It
was the toughest boxing match for Mayweather of his career and he pulled it off well.
After the fight, the unbeaten American champion stated, “If it was my last fight, I gave them a bang. There’s really no one for me to fight anymore.”
Mayweather, who still has to fight Manny Pacquiao as his fans want that fight to happen, said, “I don’t have to fight if I don’t want to. They say to save the best for last, and if this was my last fight, it was a h**l of a fight.”
When asked about if he wants to fight Pacquiao, Mayweather clearly said ‘It’s not going to happen’.
Pacquiao and Mayweather, both are considered pound-for-pound kings. Both fighters are at the verge of retirement yet fans want them to clash. Anyone who has seen the fight knows that Mayweather was not at his best, probably he has lost his stint. To a certain
extent, it is now evident why Mayweather wanted to escape the Pacquiao-fight. If Cotto could give a tough time to Mayweather then Pacquiao can easily take him down.
For now, Mayweather will serve his jail sentence of 90 days starting June 1 to August. Previously, Mayweather stated that he will come out of prison and nail Amir Khan, the former WBA and IBF super lightweight champion who is eager to fight Mayweather. However,
for some reason, it seems like Mayweather now knows where he stands and that he is not all that good now and he might skip the Khan-fight as well.
