Mayweather and Pacquiao set to reach a resolution?
Could it be? Is the end in sight? After months and months of speculation Manny Pacquiao’s promoter and Top Rank CEO Bob Arum has shed some light on the proposed Pacquiao v Floyd Mayweather Jnr super-fight by announcing that a resolution is not far off.
It’s not exactly the revelation most fight fans want to hear, but at least everyone can take comfort in the fact that questions will be answered soon. It’s a bit like watching the full five years of Lost.
He had originally set a deadline for June 30th but appeared to have forgotten about that and said that it will be next month instead.
Reading between the lines a little bit it seems reasonably optimistic. Even Arum sounds like he’s getting sick of it now and, as a wily old promoter, he will know that if he’s going to make the most money out of this it needs to be soon, as interest has reached fever pitch and is only going to go downhill from here.
There is some sort of mutually agreed gagging order in place after the debacle which was the proposed March fight, so there’s no firm news but finally fans will soon hear one way or another if or when this mega-duel will take place. This can only be a good thing.
In other news “Pacman's” career as a politician is now fully underway after he was sworn in at the weekend. He becomes a congressman for the poor province of Sarangani in the Philippines as he tries to make a difference in a nation that he hasn’t forgotten through wealth and success.
It will be interesting to see how that pans out and if he goes on to become Prime Minister. I’d like to see David Cameron try and stand toe-to-toe with Pacman if a UN conference got a bit heated.
Let’s hope it doesn’t become a trend for boxers to be politicians or we could soon see Audley Harrison as Chancellor of the Exchequer.
