with all the other welterweight contenders fighting and defeating one another and with floyd saying he is only fighting for money, do you think he is hurting the division being that he is the undisputed champ of that division and not fighting cotto, margarito or any other fighter that is trying to be the champ

  1. floyd mayweather is a cheater. he does what he can to win a fight for the money. go to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fpm10abs...          it will show you how he cheats

  2. I agree with the answerer before me, Cotto was not ready for floyd yet, moreover floyd is focusing on other things right now it is up to him to decide whether he wants to fight cotto or not.

  3. people who say cotto was not ready for floyd?

COTTO IS READY FOR FLOYD NOW

and floyd knows it, what ever it dont matter since floyd wont fight all the top contenders in the division who cares

    Cotto will

    in july cotto will fight

one of the MOST avoided fighters in the past 5 years

Antonio Margarito, floyd,  shane and oscar all turned down

    8-10 million to fight margarito

so once cotto defeats magarito he will be

the IBF and WBA welterweight champion meaning

hes UNIFIED after that floyd will have to fight cotto

if he REALLY wants to prove hes the best welter weight of this era

Its goin to be the modern day Marvin and Haglar

  4. I think floyd should vacate the belt cuz its not fair that the other welters are fighting each other and get no chance to become a  champion just because floyd is scare to fight these guys.

  5. You're right, he is the true, and lineal welterweight champion of the world- he won the title from Carlos Baldomir, and Baldomir had beaten Zab Judah for the championship, so no matter who he faces, he will still be the true welterweight champion until he loses, or retires because you CANNOT be stripped of the lineal and true championship; whether people like it or not, he is the welterweight champion of the world. And you're also right that everyone does want to see him face Miguel Cotto.  However, what the people want has no effect whatsoever on what Floyd does.  Floyd has repeatedly stated that he will not fight someone until HE is ready.  He will fight a rematch with Oscar De La Hoya in September as long as Oscar gets by Steve Forbes in May, then he will most likely fight a rematch with Ricky Hatton next year, all the while preserving himself against relatively easy opponents.  Meanwhile, Cotto will be getting worn out by guys like Antonio Margarito or a rematch with Shane Mosley.  If Cotto is able to remain unbeaten against those guys, then I think that Floyd will eventually face Cotto.  It will take a while, Floyd will have to get paid a substantial amount of money, and we may even have to wait until after next year, but eventually I think that it will happen.  As you said, those guys want a shot at him, because he is the true champ and he is the biggest name around besides De La Hoya.

Floyd can SAY that he is not in it for the money, but the fact of the matter is that at this stage of his career, thats all he cares about.  Yeah, he has enough money, but if ANYONE got offered $10 million to fight someone that they feel they could beat easily, I don't care who you are or how much money you already have, you're STILL going to take the fight.  No matter how much money Floyd has, he is still going to want more just like anyone else would.  He will never take a fight with someone as dangerous as Miguel Cotto unless the reward greatly outweighs the risk.  On Friday Night Fights, when Robert Flores asked him, "why are you fighting De La Hoya again if you already beat him and you say you have nothing left to prove?"  And guess what Floyd's response was?- "You know I gotta go out and get that money!"  I am a firm believer that Floyd is not afraid of Cotto and I also believe that he will beat Cotto when they fight, but he knows that if he waits a while longer, the fight will be all that much bigger and all that much more winnable for him.  And you must remember that if Cotto really wanted Floyd, then I think that he should do everything to hurt Floyd's ego that he can.  I don't think that Floyd will retire knowing that everyone will be saying that he ducked someone.  As I said before, the fight will happen, but it will just take a while.

  6. How is he the undisputed welterweight champ? DLH was a junior middleweight. Hatton was a junior welterweight. Mayweather is just another Jermaine Taylor waiting to be toppled.

  7. People have been talking about Cotto and Mayweather fighting for many years, but the truth is that Cotto was not ready all that time. In fact I would say that only now is he just about ready to fight Pretty Boy. Had they fought a couple yrs ago, PBF woud have beat him horribly and nobody would have given him credit because Cotto was just a young inexperience boy. Now it looks like Cotto is finally the big strong experienced man that people think is ready to fight Floyd.

So I think that Floyd did the right thing by waiting to fight Cotto. Margarito, I'm not sure what to say about that.

  8. Jim Lampley gets credit for making the distinction between a "titlist" and a "champion" but I have to echo Jim on this one.  A champion earns the label by beating the best in his weight class, and Mayweather in no way has done that at welterweight.  Until Floyd fights the likes of Clottey, Margarito, Cotto, Quintana or Williams, he is just a titlist at 147 not a champion, and what ever the sanctioning bodies say is simply more hype.

In my book, Floyd is unproven at 147, beating an aging DeLa Hoya is nothing compared to beating someone like Clottey or Williams.  I think even Shane Mosley would give Floyd trouble, and Floyd avoided Shane much like the rest of the talented welterweights.  Call it what you will, at 140 Floyd was P4P boxing's best, at 147 he is a fringe contender, and in truth the winner of Margarito/Cotto is the true welter weight champion of the world.  Floyd will be lucky if THEY GIVE HIM a fight, the welter weight division has no real need of Mayweather, Floyd isn't a true welter weight anyway.

  9. Recently I have really been discouraged from answering some of these questions because of the typical answers people that have no idea about boxing give. Floyd didn't say he is only fighting for the money in the 24/7 hatton season he said " he has enough money and he is fighting for the love of the sport". How is not fight Cotto hurting the sport ? Floyd Mayweather isnt the only boxer in the world. I have said it a Million times Cotto isnt a house hold name Sugar Ray used to alwyas say " I"ll fight Tommy Hearns win he is a reconized champion" and when he was he fought him. Floyd offored Cotto a fight after he beat Gatti at Jr Welterweight and Cotto turned it down. Rodger Mayweater said when the time is right Floyd will fight him. Give the fight some time Mayweather cant even get his d**n gloves off without someone crying about him not fighting this guy. He beat Baldmoir then they were crying for a fight with Oscar or Mosley. He beats Oscar then Max Kellermen asks Hatton about Mayweather  almost instagating him to call Floyd out then everyone says why not fight Hatton or Cotto then he beats Ricky and now Its why not fight Cotto. GIVE THE FIGHT TIME SOME OF BOXING GREATEST FIGHTS TAKE YEARS TO MAKE

    Frazier vs Ali (4 years)

    Leonard vs Haglar (3years)

Pacquiao vs Marquez 2 (4 years)

WIth boxing being more bussiness like it takes time to make fights. I am willing to bet if Cotto beats Margrito they will fight in 2009 just like Larry Marchant said.
