Mayweather is being smart....he's waiting for the winner of Margarito-Cotto to take on De la hoya. and then he'll come out of retirement and fight the winner. Thats how you sell yourself and make even more millions.

Smart. He knew that if he would have fought oscar he would have to relinquish his undisputed welterweight title dur to not defending and fighting out side of the weight class. second, he was not going to make as much money fighting oscar the second time and would be labled a money grabbing "w***e" of a champion and would have lost much respect from the fans of the sport. 3rd if he beat cotto he would gain nothing sense it would just be a fight for the fans and not a money fight. Now he may be "lured" out of retirement by a large sum of money to fight cotto next year

I think hes smart and he knows theres no way he could clean up that division. 147  has so much talent and dangerous fighters. mayweather is waiting for the division to clean itself up so when the timing is right he will only have to fight the top dog. In my opionion if he did clean this division i would consider him to be the best welterweight ever!!! , even over sugar ray L.

he wanted to retire undefeated and it was inevitable he would have eventually had to fight the winner of cotto-margarito and i personally think it would be cotto and those are two people that really have what it takes to hand him his first defeat. he is not a legend. legends run through their division. like ali, he didnt back down from anyone, mayweather refused to talk about anyone but de la hoya

hes a coward. he only retired because he would get tons of pressure to fight the winner of margarito/cotto.  he said he retired casue he dont like boxing anymore thats lame.. hes money mayweather how u not gonna take one more huge payday agaisnt oscar who he can easly beat. i thaught he was all about the money.

Both. He has no heart but he is also smart. Ask yourself this question, if you already Champion of the world in different weight class and now extremely rich, would you risk your health by keep on fighting? I wouldn't.

pretty boy, has nothing to worry about. even if he does retire. hes a boxing legend
