I have a 2001 Mazda Protege with 5-speed and 2.0 engine. I want to make it a little faster or give it a little bit more horsepower. The thing is i dont want to spend over $100...Kinda rough i know. Any Ideas on what i should do?.. I thought on putting a cold air intake the universal ones from autozone or kragen but dont know if its a good idea. Should i put that and will it affect anything(horsepower, acceleration, engine?) or should i just forget it and leave it with the stock air filter. Give me some ideas please..thanxxxx guys

  1. Yea the best thing for you is an intake system but it won't give you a lot of hp or torque.  On your engine it may only bring 2 hp and 1 torque.  But it will feel and sound like it has more and your throttle response will probably be better.  You can get a universal pipe but make sure it fits.  And don't use a no name filter.  Get at least a k&n filter.  You could probably get the universal pipe and the filter for less than 80 dollars.
