Mazen Hesham Ga Sabry flabbergasts Omar Abdel Meguid in semi final – Al Hassan Open 2011
The biggest upset of the semi finals was when top seeded Egyptian Omar Abdel Meguid lost to compatriot Mazen Hesham Ga Sabry in the semi final of the Al Hassan Open 2011.
The two had taken up the challenge at the Al-Hassan International Squash Center in Amman, Jordan. After sixty eight minutes the lower ranked Egyptian outwitted the top seeded compatriot with a score of 11-4, 11-5, 5-11, 13-15, 11-9 and put him to shame.
Opening the first round of the match was Meguid and he got off to a great start as he was able to cling to his serve but during the mid of the first game he fumbled a bit with his serve, this gave Sabry a breakthrough that he was looking for.
As Sabry capitalized on the breakthrough, he then had the ball in his hand and with a mix of variation, he took the lead. From there onwards both the players kept bagging their serves and neither one wanted to drop the ball. In doing so; Sabry managed to
clog the opening round of the match. The unseeded Egyptian repeated the feat in the second set and this time, he conquered his opponent by utilizing the Attacking boast method.
However, in a twist of fate in the third set, Sabry had lost the power play as his stamina had worn out. Nonetheless, he still managed to clog five points but had eventually lost the set. In the fourth set Sabry had recovered a bit and battled till the last
point while not giving up.
The players matched a blow for a blow and the two kept the score tied for the first thirteen points but Meguid, got a lucky break and he then reeled off two consecutive points to bag the third set. By repeating the feat, Meguid had managed to conquer two
sets.
By the end of the fourth set both the players had conquered a two sets each and the match was pushed into a fifth set. Neither of the p layers wanted the other to take the lead and once more the two had locked into a fierce rally. The score kept tied for
most part of the set but towards the end, Sabry shocked his adversary by scoring two more points and in doing so; managed to seal his victory of the set and the match.
