Maziyyah Nadhir overthrows Lianne Tan in qualifying round of Djarum Indonesia Open 2012
Women’s Singles expert Maziyyah Nadhir of Indonesia overcame Lianne Tan in her opening match of Djarum Indonesia Open qualifying round on June 12, 2012.
The local shuttler relished full benefits of home ground and crowd at Istora Senayan Stadium of Jakarta and ended this tussle with favourable result of 20-22, 21-13 and 21-14.
She displayed unbeatable craft in 48-minute fight and setup next encounter with higher ranked compatriot Aprilla Yuswandari.
Meanwhile, the Belgian lady showed admirable resisting skills in the opening set but she lacked good finishing skills and crashed out of the tournament.
The first set proved best part of the match as both contenders put all they got to gain an immediate advantage but none of them could hit the mark until game point situation.
Though, Lianne Tan was in strong position in the beginning with 7-4 but the opposing player gathered three consecutive points and levelled score.
Maziyyah Nadhir had a slight edge in 11-10 margin before mid-game break but later part of the game saw her struggling to carry this momentum.
The game remained on knife’s edge until 20-20 but the Belgian lady finished this nerve-racking tussle by registering winning total of 22-20.
Next game was full of drama as at one stage Lianne Tan was in strong position to seal a straight-set victory but then the Indonesian campaigner bounced back and turned the tables.
In first half of the set, World Number 61 Lianne made swift progress with three nonstop rallies and placed 5-1 score on the board. She maintained this edge until 8 but could not continue with same flow after that.
Maziyyah Nadhir, who was underrated earlier in home event, gathered six consecutive points and reached at commanding position of 11-8 before the interval.
She did not reduce speed in later part of the game also and bagged second set with a notable margin of 21-13.
Third and final set remained interesting just until half time as it proved one-sided affair after mid-game break.
The Indonesian lady employed unique tactics after 13-13 and outclassed her challenger by grabbing eight out of nine final points in concluding figure of 21-14.
