Maziyyah Nadhir surpasses Sylvina Kurniawan in Indonesia International Challenge – Badminton news
Women’s Singles expert Maziyyah Nadhir remained invincible in second round of Prim-A Indonesia International Challenge and thrashed Sylvina Kurniawan on Thursday, July 4, 2013.
This 60-minute tussle was staged at the local badminton arena of Surabaya and both contenders displayed commendable fighting spirit while piling up the final figures of 21-14, 7-21 and 21-17.
The top seeded shuttler Maziyyah Nadhir prevailed in the opening and ending segments of this showdown whereas the opposing player could serve the notice of her potential only in the second set.
With this splendid win, Maziyyah Nadhir qualified for the quarter-final round where she is scheduled to meet Rusydina Antardayu Riodingin.
In pre quarter-final match, she played with an aggressive approach from very first stroke till the last one. She started the beating from the beginning of first set and established a strong grip over this crucial game.
Maziyyah bagged many valuable points without any interruption and left her challenger far behind in the score card. She finished first half of the set with an impressive margin of 11 and then capitalised this lead in latter part of the game.
After the one-minute interval, Maziyyah Nadhir made some mistakes that weakened her grip in third quarter of the set. However, she managed to reinstate her dominance and placed a concluding figure of 21-14.
The second set of match was filled with lot of surprises as the higher ranked Indonesian campaigner surrendered tamely. On the other hand, Sylvina showed a transformed character and swept the table with an unassailable margin.
At first, she raised her chances of success by putting a respectable figure of 11 and then doubled the impact by prevailing in back-to-back rallies immediately after the interval. Sylvina ruled the court in third quarter of the set and finished this crucial
game with an outstanding result of 21-7.
The decider was expected to be a tough contest but it proved a one-sided affair after the mid-game break. The Indonesian shuttler Maziyyah employed all of her brilliance and experience in the game and wrapped this set with an impressive total of 21-17.
Now she will resume her campaign in the quarter-finals of Indonesia International Challenge.
