The Napoli chief insists that none of the top teams field a bunch of youngsters, and believes no team can clinch the crucial third spot in Serie A with too many ‘kids’.
Walter Mazzarri has defended his sceptic nature when it comes to fielding youngsters in the fixtures for his team, and insists that you cannot win consistently with kids.
The tactician has been subjected to criticism by the media following his tendency to use youngsters such as Federico Fernandez, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Eduardo-Vargas-c12087, sparingly rather than regularly.
The Partenopei chief insisted that those in favour of the youth should look at the use of young talent by the two leading teams of Serie A. The veteran insisted that a team cannot finish third with too many youngsters amidst such
competition.
While talking to the press, the Azzurri chief said:
“Look at how many youngsters Milan and Juventus use. You can’t finish third with kids.”
The former Sampdoria manager insisted that the use of the youth is subject to the objectives that you are aiming to achieve by the end of the season. He went on to say that while it is possible to survive in the league with young
talent, attaining a UEFA Champions League spot in the league will require its fair share of experience.
“You have to look at the objectives of a club before unleashing youngsters in Serie A. If you’re asking me to survive then all of the younger players can be used. If you want to finish in the top three then it becomes a lot more
difficult.”
The Azzurri chief pointed out that he has been criticised in the past for fielding many young players in the team’s defeat at the hands of Chievo Verona.

Mazzarri insisted that the Chilean is an exceptional talent, but needs time to mature as a player before he can be made a regular element of Napoli. The tactician insisted that it is important to put the right pressure on the budding
stars, as too much can adversely affect their growth as stars of the future.
