Mazzarri happy with Napoli’s performance despite the defeat to Bayern Munich: Serie A news
Napoli manager, Walter Mazzarri, is content with his team’s performance despite losing against Bayern Munich.
The Neapolitan suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Jupp Heynckes’s side at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011. Mario Gomez’s hat-trick in the first-half tormented the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003 defence but they showed
great spirits to fight back and finish the game with a respectable score-line.
Mazzarri said, “I’m happy with our performance. We had a few moments of naivety and paid for them, as Bayern took all their chances and we didn’t.”
Mazzarri insisted that he is happy with his team’s performance despite the few nervy moments that cost them the game. He also praised the home side for taking their chances and believes that it was the only difference between the
two teams.
The tactician is still regretting the third Bayern goal as his team was down to ten men at that time due to an injury to defender, Salvatore Aronica.
The Azzurri move down to the third place in Group A after the defeat, as their rivals, Manchester City claimed a convincing win in their match. However, despite that, Mazzarri is proud of his team’s performances and insisted that
they played excellent football against one of the best teams in the world.
“Of course there is regret we had 10 men when the third goal arrived, as we didn’t have time to complete http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Salvatore-Aronica-c32276’s substitution. We really did try everything and it was a great performance from my players. We are happy
with what we did here and emerge with our heads held high against a phenomenal Bayern side, who for me are on a par with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604.”
He added that despite going three goals down in the first half, the team played remarkably well in the second half and forced the opposition to defend.
Napoli have picked up only five points in the four matches played thus far. The Italian outfit will face Manchester City in a decisive match in terms of qualification to the next round on Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011.
Mazzarri has urged his players to shift their focus to the Serie A game against Juventus on Sunday, November 6th, 2011.
