Mazzarri happy with the defeat and defends his selection for the Chievo game: Serie A news
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003 manager, Walter Mazzarri, has defended his selection policy in the defeat to Chievo Verona and believes that the result will be a wake-up call for his team.
The Partenopei side lost 1-0 in their third league game of the 2011/12 Serie A season at the Stadio Marc Antonio Bentegodi on Wednesday, September 21, 2011. Mazzarri made wholesale changes to his team from the win over A.C Milan
last weekend. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Edinson-Cavani-c11955, Marek Hamsik and Gokhan Inler started from the bench.
The former Sampdoria manager was heavily criticized for his team selection in the game but he is not concerned with the critics and has admitted that he will continue to rotate his squad like this in the future too.
“I would make the same decisions. If Andrea Dossena hadn’t been forced to stay back by a family bereavement, I would’ve rested http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Christian-Maggio-c9098 as well."
The Azzurri have lost their third consecutive game against the Flying Donkey’s and Mazzarri feels that his team is cursed to play at this ground.
“Unfortunately, this stadium seems to be cursed for us, as we also lost to Chievo last season."
The 49-year-old believes that his team played well despite the defeat but he is happy with the result as it would wake them up after a tremendous start to the campaign.
“It’s true we didn’t create as much as usual, but we had some good moves in the first half and fatigue means we need to rotate the squad. In any case, this defeat could be good for Napoli. It’s important we all learn that Italian
football is tough and you can lose against the smaller clubs.”
The Azzurri now find themselves on the fourth spot of the league table and have picked up 6 points from tree games thus far. Napoli will host Fiorentina in their next league game on Saturday, September 24, 2011.
