Mazzarri praises Napoli for a strong performance against Villarreal and worried by injuries
Napoli manager, Walter Mazzarri, has praised his team’s performance in the 2-0 win over Villarreal in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, September 27, 2011.
Mazzarri is happy that his team did not throw away the advantage after scoring two early goals. The Azzurri have been sloppy in holding onto the leads in the recent past and have conceded cheap goals on many occassions this season.
The former Sampdoria boss added that he told the players to play as if they are playing 0-0 and show the fight to score more goals. The 49-year-old is delighted with the start to the UEFA Champions League and believes that the players are following his orders. Mazzarri admitted that he told his players not to think about the opposition and just play their natural games.
Mazzarri said, “This time we didn’t throw the lead away. The watchword was always play as if it’s 0-0. There is a lot of work and we’ve grown earlier than expected. Mentality is everything and I always told the lads not to think about the opponents, whether home or away."
The tactician is worried by the injuries picked up by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Edinson-Cavani-c11955 in last night’s win. Aronica picked up an injury in the dying minutes of the game against the Yellow Submarine, while El-Matador also limped off the field in the 70th minute.
Mazzarri admitted that he is facing immense difficulty in picking the squad for their next league game against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan and also faces a huge task to keep the players fresh due to a hectic fixture schedule.
“I am worried by Cavani’s ankle, just as I am by Aronica’s injury. I don’t know if http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marco-Donadel-c23690 are out of action.”
