The former Juventus striker has claimed that he was interested in a move to Naples, but the deal was blocked by current Partenopei boss, Walter Mazzarri.
The World-Cup winning Frenchman stated that he was all set to join the San Paolo outfit and was eager to join the club to impart his knowledge and experience to the side.
With an abundance of experience both in the Serie A and in the UEFA Champions League, it would have seemed the logical decision in many people’s eyes to snap the Frenchman up.
The former Monaco star was a regular feature at Juventus and played for the club for nearly a decade, scoring 138 goals in his 242 appearances for the Bianconeri giants.
The lanky striker had a keen sense of positioning and would have been a big asset for the South Italian outfit. However, despite his impressive resume and illustrious career, Mazzarri opted not to sign the striker.

In his interview he was quoted to have said:
“It is not only me who decides, but the whole club. The choice was apt, we took [Goran] Pandev. Trezeguet was a great champions, but I didn’t want a shadow for [Edinson]
Cavani who we had just signed permanently. I am happy with the choice made, even if I also say that it was not just mine.”

a new deal. The manager commented on the impact Hamsik has had at the club and stated:
“He is an important player and had to be reconfirmed. He is the symbol of our progress. I’m happy with the choice made by the club. This year will serve to further grow.
It is one thing to play well, another to determine games. [His signing] is clearly a guarantee for me, I want motivated players more than ever.”
Napoli take on Novara in the week 34 fixture of the Serie A, and would be looking towards Cavani and Hamsik to provide the impetus the club needs.
