Mazzarri ruing missed opportunities against Fiorentina and hits back at critics: Serie A news
Napoli manager, Walter Mazzarri, believes that his team only lacked finishing in the goalless draw against Fiorentina at the Stadio San Paolo on Saturday, September 24, 2011.
After a wonderful start to the campaign the Azzurri have dropped five points in their last two games. Mazzarri thinks that his team played well during the night and had several clear opportunities to score but his strikers lacked
the finishing. The former Sampdoria boss also praised the Fiorentina defence for putting up a strong show and admitted that they gave his side a tough time.
“What were we missing tonight? A goal. We put the ball in the box numerous times, but must also compliment Fiorentina, who showed they are a strong side. We had a great game and took the initiative while Fiorentina were prudent,
but that is football. It was a balanced first half and a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003 monologue after the break.”
The 49-year-old admitted that the two teams played on equal footing and it is a fair result. The boss is not bothered by the slump in form and believes that it is only the start of the season and there are many games still left
to play. Mazzarri insisted that the criticism on his team is sharper than the praise as the critics are not remembering their performances against A.C Milan and Manchester City.
"Maybe some people think the season is over after two consecutive victories, but I know that’s not the case. Also bear in mind that the long journeys are tiring on the squad with the Champions League."
The Azzurri boss is not happy with the turf of Stadio San Paolo and believes that the conditions were against his team despite playing at home. The manager has asked for the change of pitch and wants new surface to be laid which
should suit his team’s playing style.
Napoli face a stern test as they take on Claudio Ranieri’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan in their next game on Saturday, October 1st, 2011.
