The Azzurri boss satisfied with his team’s performance despite another draw
Napoli manager, Walter Mazzarri, has urged his players to maintain their focus on the league otherwise they are heading for a barren run.
The Partenopei outfit drew yet another game as they were held to a 1-1 draw by the newly promoted, Novara. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003 have drawn last four of their five league matches and have seen themselves drift the league leaders, Udinese by nine
points. The Azzurri were heading towards a defeat but Blerim Dzemaili’s late strike secured them a point.
Mazzarri believes that his team played well over the night but the opposition gave them a tough time. The 50-year-old admitted that his team struggled to play on the synthetic pitch and after some good build-up plays, they lacked
the final ball. The former Sampdoria boss defended his decision of substituting prolific striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Edinson-Cavani-c11955, and believes that he was not at his best.
“We played a good game and it wasn’t easy. Novara were very organised and closed down all the spaces. It’s true that we lacked something in the final ball in the first half, while the synthetic pitch caused us problems, plus we
weren’t sharp due to fatigue. I substituted Edy Cavani because he didn’t seem sharp tonight.”
Contrary to their league form, Napoli have been outstanding in the UEFA Champions League and qualified for the last 16 round. The Italian has urged his players to shift their focus back to the league as there will be no European
football until February. Mazzarri added that the team must get back to winning ways against A.S http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 next week otherwise they will get behind in the title race.
“Anything can happen from now to the end of the season. We don’t have Champions League commitments until February, so can finally work throughout the week to prepare for the next game against Roma. We must become humble again,
otherwise we’re heading for a sticky end.”
Napoli have picked up 21 points from 14 games played thus far and are placed 5th in the league table. The Azzurri will take on Giallorossi in their next game.
