McAfee "Installing McAfee Virusscan:Started" interferes with gaming?

I recently switched from Norton to McAfee, because it came free with my internet...but ever since it has also interfered with my gaming and internet browsing. Almost every day the above phrase in quotes appears and i start to lag like crazy, and at the most inconvenient times. I mean...it appears almost every day at random times, and i hate it. In World of Warcraft there's a latency bar that detects your connectivity with the server, (Green=good yellow=ok and red usually indicates a problem with your connection). Almost every single time my latency increases to red and has increased to 1000ms which is very bad...i would like to know.

1. What exactly is this phrase supposed to mean, and why does it happen every day.

2. Can i cancel it?

3.Why does it slow my compute down so much

  1. For sure, Norton and McAffee are both resource hogs.  You'd be well ahead in all aspects of computer use if you got a lightweight application like Avast!  It's free for home use & I have it on 5 different systems with no prob's.

  2. Hi Darryl

De-activate McAffee when you run games. That is the worse software to run in any background and it's a memory hogger.

  3. 1. What exactly is this phrase supposed to mean, and why does it happen every day.

A: Its installing updates to your virus protection database

    2. Can i cancel it?

Yes. Uninstall it or turn off automatic updates in the mcafee control panel.

3.Why does it slow my compute down so much

Because Its downloading. And its using your internet connection so it uses most of the speed.

  4. Get rid of that garbage Norton and anti-virus hoggers. Your games will run better and won't stop halfway. Even Mcaffee socks. De-activate all virus soft. Jung is correct.
