Question:

McCabe looks to be gone, Leafs fans should be going crazy in Toronto tonight!?

Well first off I am going to say the Leafs made a decent move by moving this pathetic example of a pro hockey player. But I hear they got some kid through FA...Jeff Finger...sounds right...no experience, got benched in playoffs...took over 6 years to make it to the NHL full time. My question is: Is it time for the Leafs to do a complete overhaul of their team? As the current doesn't have a chance of making the playoffs. I would say that less than 50% of their players are considered "good-great". Comments would be appreciated.

  1. McCabe is a much better D-man then Finger- he had an off bit early last year and made several big mistakes, but later in the season he was clearly a top guy. I wouldn't be so happy to see him out the door.

The leafs are trying to do a complete overhaul. They're trying to be awful so they can stockpile a lot of young talent. They're not trying for the playoffs, they're trying for Tavares. Good luck with that. The Isles or the Thrashers will probably win that one...

  2. McCabe's time in Toronto has ended (hopefully). I think it's time for him to leave and I am so happy its almost been done. Obviously it's time to rebuild completely... actually it's been time long ago! I'm happy we're starting over and getting better for the future. Where we can be a contending team! If we get Traverse we can be a pretty good team in time!

  3. Finger's Contract = Lameness of McCabe's Contract.

  4. Woo hoo.  Ooops, hang on we need to get noise makers and party hats.  I had heard the Leafs weren't going to let him play for them this year even if they could find no takers.  This is all still very much a rumor in Leafland and those are as plentiful as rice in China so we should wait until it happens.  I had heard Florida is interested and may be his ultimate destination.

The Leafs seemed to be gearing up to finish last.  I would not be surprised if their top pick was signed but sent back to Junior this year as well.

It still kind of early to say they won't make the playoffs don't you think?

  5. McCabe was an excellent 18 minute per game, $2 mil defenceman. Somehow he became a 28 minute, $6 million dollar guy and could never live up to those expectations in a market where you  are constantly under a microscope.

"Is it time for the Leafs to do a complete overhaul of their team?" I hope so, since that's what they're doing.

" I would say that less than 50% of their players are considered "good-great". " Yup, Kaberle is less than 50 %, although Luke Schenn and Nikolai Kulemin have plenty of potential. Blake Antroponi would make a good second or third line guy, but when that's your top line, goals (and wins) are going to be hard to come by. Defence and goaltending looks OK, but if you can't put the puck in the net .... oh well. I think the highlight of the season will come next June, at the draft.

  6. is he actually gone or is this still rumors? if so post the link to the trade. I dont really like Finger, McCabe isnt that bad of a defenceman, theres alot worse D in the NHL than McCabe. They better get someone good, rather than get desprite and settle for the 1st offer in

  7. No, they need a complete overhaul of management, starting with d**k Peddie. I think his first name's Richard, I'm not 100% sure....

  8. Latest rumour has Bryan going to Florida. Boumeister wants out McCabe wants in. Salaries about equal long range. Could be the deal.

  9. He looks to be gone, he wasn't the worst defense man but he really didn't help the leafs. I hope we get someone good. If he and Sundin is gone then Kaberle is caption. Exactally what I wanted.

  10. Mccabe was a good player until the rules changes; then his lack of speed became an issue.  The first year out wasn't so bad as he scored a bunch of goals on the powerplay, but now, teams have figured out if you come out on him that he doesn't do much.

As one person noted, for $2mm he's not a bad player as a 2nd/3rd line defenceman.  But over $6mm; no chance.
