A legislative record spanning 26 years and no one can come up with a single accomplishment "Exxon John" McCain has in ushering the U.S. towards energy independence. Can you name any real accomplishment of McCain in his 26 years in office?

  1. Exxon John?  Surely you must be aware that Obama's campaign has received more money from Exxon than McCain's.

The scary thing is that we don't need to name any real accomplishments for McCain. Since Obama has none, that leaves them on equal footing going into the election.  McCain at least realizes that energy independence can't happen overnight and at least for now we need to keep tapping into our own sources of oil and natural gas.  Obama seems to completely overlook the downsides to alternative energies like wind and solar.  My main issue with him is that he does not seem open enough to all sources of power, both traditional and new technology.

  2. energy independence is an impossibility!! Its a good slogan though!

  3. First of all, McCain ins ONE senator among 50 - Second the majority in Congress is Democrat - What did Bill Clinton do in his 8 years ? -

He raised taxes on Sociial Scurity Recipients ! I was being taxed 50% of my pension, that draft dodger raised it ( along with the Democrat Congress ) to 80 % - Accomplished by Mr. Mac ? - NO RAISE IN TAXES !

  4. Although I was unhappy with him when it happened I believe he has shown himself to be a representative of all Americans when he was the spearhead for the compromise that broke the logjam on judicial appointments.  He has been consistently bipartisan, despite the complaints and attacks from his own party.  So, when it comes to legislative and leadership examples, McCain has a long string of them, something clearly missing from Obama's resume.

The question of "Energy Independence" is a tricky one.  We clearly have the ability to be energy independent but the environmental cost has been determined by the Congress as unrealistically high.  As a result, we have chosen, as a country, to remain dependent on outside sources of oil and underdevelop our nonoil energy resources.  I do not lay this at McCain's or certainly not at Obama's feet.  The entire Congress is tarred with this brush.  Apparently there is much political hay to make with the issue, so much that solving the problem has taken a back seat to blaming the other guy for it.  Heck, if we solved it what would I have to blame the other guy for...

  5. He was almost indicted a few times.

  6. Yes, Jimmy Carter lied yet again.  It seems the tree huggers have far too much power to allow us to shed our independence on foreign oil.

  7. Talk is cheap, and when you turn on 95% of your past voting record to win an election, it shows your selfishness.
