I thank God that I have the mind to read an article before jumping to any conclusions based on the headline. As a McCain supporter, member of the US military and a US citizen who's proud of her country, I hope that others realize that propaganda, no matter how well written, is just a mud slinging tactic best ignored. Focus on the facts, and make a good decision based on that. My opinion?? Good for him on drawing his Social Security. He's earned his stripes, and devoted his life for love of country and family.

  1. I could not AGREE WITH YOU MORE!

  2. He is drawing his Social Security and he is entitled to it - but like most politicians, when he talks about the program, he lies.   It is true that sometime around 2042 or 2052,  the amount coming in may not be enough to pay 100% of the promised benefits - but whether this happens depends on how well the economy does and how long people are living 35+ years from now; and nobody can predict that with accuracy.

But when McCain and other politicians say the program is in a crisis because in few years, when the baby boom generation starts to retire, more will be coming out of the Social Security trust than is going in - they lie. -  Social Security was fixed back in 1983 when FICA taxes were raised to build up a surplus in the trust fund to help pay for the retirement of the baby boom generation.  Prior to 1983, Social Security was a pay as you go system - What came in paid for the retirement of the previous generation.  But as a result of the 1983 reforms under President Reagan, the baby boom generation became the first generation to pay for their parent's retirement as well as their own.   The real problem is that the rest of the government has been borrowing the surplus as fast as comes in and spending it and using it to help finance tax cuts for the rich - and now that the baby boom generation is about to retire, its inconvenient to pay it back- This is a problem with the rest of the government not social security.

Politicians of both parties  have tried  to distract the public from what has really been going on, because both parties  have benefited from being able to spend the surplus going into the Social Security Trust Fund.

  3. Guns guns and more guns

  4. Are you asking his view on his or our social security (S.S.)? McCain is not part of our S.S. system. He is covered under a special fund for federal employees, which is decidedly better then what you and I will get upon retiring.

  5. He draws social security?? Interesting. Seeing that Cindy is worth millions I would think he would leave the social security funds alone....so that we might have something left over for us. Most rich people do not apply for social security.
