McCain Bad for Military?

Question

I was recruited into the military under John McCain's National Call to Service contract. I was to be for 2 years of service, followed by the usual time in reserve status. I wanted to join for 6 years, but someone chickened out on this contract so I took it to get in faster.

No one in human resources or in my chain of command knew what the contract meant. It led to me being in a deployed location when the clause of "16 months following training" made my contract END 4 months before ANY of us thought it should.

I was fast tracked out of theater where I was needed and rapid separated. Meaning 1 week after I returned from war, I was homeless and unemployed.

Also, since I didn't serve a full 2 years and my deployment never got added to my DD-214, I've been denied any VA benefits. Something that I'm working on clearing up.

John McCain can't do anything right. Conservatives, is this the best we can do? Do I have to vote LIBERAL now? I'm sure as h**l not voting for the man who put me, my wife, and my baby boy on the streets when I wanted to serve my country.

It would be easier, for you to decide, if you would just get over this lib/con BS. There are conservative democrats and liberal republicans. You can't tell me that borrowing and spending, as the republicans do is conservative. You can't tell me that trying to prevent government interference, into private lives, is liberal.

The labels lib and con are meaningless, unless considered in the context of a particular issue. Get over the media driven lib/con labeling and maybe you won't be so torn up about what you should do.

The treatment of ex servicemen by military minded leaders in many countries is just shocking.

McCain can't really be blamed for the beauracracy. The military manages to to regularly s***w over soilders.

I personally think both sides of government don't care that much.

I would suggest that you write to your local government representative. Often they will take up your case with the right department.

Get together with other vets and make a difference, doesn't matter who is the leader, put the pressure on now to get a better deal for vets. I don't support the war, but I do think governments should look after ex servicement better.

I have no way of knowing how much of what you say is true.  John McCain probably knows nothing about your particular case.  How could he know what goes on with each young man in the service?  Holding hard feelings like this is not fair to you or John McCain.  It just festers and ends up a lot worse each time you think about it or tell it.  If truth were known; John McCain has no idea who you are.  After what he dealt with in the that prison of war; where he was held captive for 6 years; makes your incident seem like nothing.  He was tortured with many others.  

I believe that John McCain wants the best for every citizen in this country but he can't do it with hard feelings that people have and telling to others how terrible a person that he is.  He needs our support in order to make things better for all of us.  People that we meet will be influenced to vote by our attitude and the things that we say.

Things didn't work out like you wanted but don't allow that to keep YOU from getting all that YOU can out of YOUR life.  You are the only one who can do it.  Make a list of some things that you want to do with the rest of your life and try to do as many of them as you can.  You are the only person who is in control of your life.  Make the best of each day that you have left.  We don't know how many more we will have.  Life is too short to be unhappy.  We live in the most wonderful country in the world.  Enjoy our country and the people that are in it.  How many places have you been that you would really like to see?

Don't let what you think of John McCain or anyone else mess up your life.  Especially when he doesn't know what happened to you personally.  How can someone fix something for you; when they don't even know about it?   You know your side.  Shake it off and do some real living.
