Question:

McCain / Small business and health care?

My husband owns a small construction company. Right now he offers health care to about a dozen employees. He told me after reading McCain's fix the health care plan he would have to let the employees get their own health care.

McCain would give each $5000 tax break to off set costs, but in all reality it would cost each employee over $7000 more out of the pocket than current conditions.

How could this be better for Americans? We are struggling now with this issue and trying to cope with the economy and the cost of living. Oh, I forgot. We're all rich ( the middle class) and making $300K a year. We can survive.

    "From Saturday's Globe and Mail

    More than 400 Canadians in the full throes of a heart attack or other cardiac emergency have been sent to the United States because no hospital can provide the lifesaving care they require here. Most of the heart patients who have been sent south since 2003 typically show up in Ontario hospitals, where they are given clot-busting drugs. If those drugs fail to open their clogged arteries, the scramble to locate angioplasty in the United States begins."

    "According to a national poll, four out of five Canadians are unhappy with their socialized health care system. Doctors in Manitoba apparently agree: Almost half of them have left the province in the past decade alone."

  3. Yes, under McCains system employees would have a choice. This would cause all healthy young employees to leave your husbands employees based system causing your small business rates to go up and eventually making it so  employers would no longer be able to afford insurance for their employees.

    Obama is offering the same credit but to the businesses themselves, therefore making it easier for small businesses to provide healthcare.

    Both Obama and McCain seek to make a new government agency to cover those deemed "uninsurable", of course under McCains more people would be deemed that. Esentially McCain is trying to destroy the Employer based healthcare system while Obama is trying to help small businesses and families.

    Please learn about this issue, it is extremely important .

    Patriot - Read Obamas plan it offers incentives for businesses to provide insurance, that is a huge stretch from any kind of European program. Think about it - why would insurance companies be backing Obama if they thought he would end their existence????   His plan is far from socialism, tax incentives for small businesses is pretty standard American Capitalism philosophy.

  4. I am a small business owner and I am right on top of this issue.  As stated above, McCain would do away with my tax break for offering health care to my employees.  This would be a burden to me to offer any kind of health care plans to my employees or myself due to the size of my company.

    We would get a $5000 tax break to "off set" the cost of getting our own insurance.  I could get something, but then paying the co-pay and meds would be another story.  To get a equal insurance plan to what we carry now, out of pocket costs would more than double leaving less money for every day cost of living.

    In short, my employees from talking to them would not be able to carry health care insurance and use that $5000 as we did our rebate checks.  To play catch up on bills and repairs around the home.

    $5000 free money, sounds great...until you or a loved one gets ill and need medical help.  Best think ahead before you vote for McCain. Think about your family if not yourself.  Unless you make over $200000 a year, you best be voting Democrat this election!

    McCain=McSame

    Palin = Oil Monger

  5. Excellent question. And one of those questions that McCain's cultists can't answer. They'll try to scare you with words like 'socialism' and such, but they don't have a legitimate answer. By the way, even if your husband were to figure out a way, McCain plans to tax it. Sad, but true. I'll try to find you some links :)

    "McCain's plan would cost $3.6 trillion over 10 years, the campaign said. McCain would pay for the program by eliminating the tax break employers get for offering insurance.

    Doug Holtz-Eakin, a McCain senior policy adviser, said the tax credit would allow individuals to obtain health coverage "tailored to the circumstances of your life" rather than being forced to accept the insurance provided by an employer."

    Hah! How my husband would love to be in the position of being 'forced' to accept coverage offered by his long-time employer. McCain really doesn't get it. (As a matter of fact, he's been having lots of stomach problems lately, and missed 2 days of work this year. The Republitard plant manager wrote him up. He wants doctor's notes if my husband gets sick again. WTF? Like we can afford health care insurance on what they pay.) So sad.

  6. First off McCain doesn't care about the middle class. His only concern is that "big oil" is taken care of. Here is Obama's plan for both small business and health care.

    Small business

    "Support Small Business

    Provide Tax Relief for Small Businesses and Start Up Companies: Barack Obama will eliminate all capital gains taxes on start-up and small businesses to encourage innovation and job creation. Obama will also support small business owners by providing a $500 “Making Work Pay” tax credit to almost every worker in America. Self-employed small business owners pay both the employee and the employer side of the payroll tax, and this measure will reduce the burdens of this double taxation.

    Create a National Network of Public-Private Business Incubators: Barack Obama will support entrepreneurship and spur job growth by creating a national network of public-private business incubators. Business incubators facilitate the critical work of entrepreneurs in creating start-up companies. Obama will invest $250 million per year to increase the number and size of incubators in disadvantaged communities throughout the country."

    Health care

    "Support for Small Businesses: Barack Obama will create a Small Business Health Tax Credit to provide small businesses with a refundable tax credit of up to 50 percent on premiums paid by small businesses on behalf of their employees. This new credit will provide a strong incentive to small businesses to offer high quality health care to their workers and help improve the competitiveness of America’s small businesses."

    Hope this helps.

  7. Well...Obama'a plan of nationized healthcare is a blunder too!  Has Pavlov, (in this case Canada) , taught him nothing? McCains plan is $5000 for a family and that money will go directly to the healthcare provider with the "unused" balance going into a health care "savings account".  Forget these two...I'm writing in Ron Paul!

  8. wow what kinda plan they have and where do you live?

    Ive looked into a personal health care plan and just checked a family plan because of what you said and for a family of 4 going off the best plan where i live it would cost about 6500 dollars a year. which would end up less as most people i know in that situation are contributing more than the balance of 1500 for the year for their share of the premium after the employer pays the rest.  still i know alot of people who pay more.

    Even if california for the same family setup it was 9000. a balance of 4k. still i know alot of people who pay more.

    5k credit maybe would need to be adjusted for the average cost in the area.
