Question:

McCain sums it up perfectly.... ?

I read an article this morning on Yahoo news that was taking about how the Republican party would be curbing some of the convention events due to Hurrican Gustav and in the article McCain was quoted as saying:

"I pledge that tomorrow night, and if necessary throughout our

convention, we will act as Americans and not as Republicans

because America needs us now," McCain said.

I know this b/c I sent it to my husband for reading. However, when he accessed the link the quote had been changed to something more "PR appropriate". This is just one more fine example of the continuing plunders and hokey rhetoric that we are going to have to put up with if this GOP ticket wins.

Sure.. everyone is allowed a slip up now and then.. but COME ON!! I'm tired of the US being the butt of the world because our leaders can't get a handle on the English language!

  1. We got the jist of it. Obama said that "America is the greatest country in the world, help me change it"

The link is to show you everyone makes mistakes. If you are looking for perfection in politicians you will be greatly disappointed

  2. I can't help but think McPOW is actually somewhat happy about this turn of events.

It bumps Bush and Cheney from the convention, and he gets to go down to Mississippi with his alien wife and the Mayor of Tiny Town to "help".

Not sure what a man who can't even do jumping jacks is going to do to help though...

  3. The new lead quote is:

"This is a time when we have to do away with our party politics and we have to act as Americans,"

The awkward quote you gave still stands in the AP story that is on Yahoo news.  It is buried farther down in the story.

But here is the part in the story I really liked, where McCain referenced Palin's experience vs. Obama's:

He cited Palin's stint as governor of a "state that produces 20 percent of America's energy" as well as her previous membership in the PTA and her time spent on the city council and in the mayor's office in Wasilla,a town of fewer than 7,000 people outside Anchorage.

Must have been one h**l of a PTA is all I can say.

  4. so what's the big deal??? obviously you know what he's saying, you're just trying make a mountain out of a molehill.

  5. I think what he meant is that the RNC will not be more important than being ready and available to any American, regardless of party affiliation (New Orleans/Lousiana is a democratic state).

  6. It would be great for America if people stopped acting like republicans.

  7. I saw that too.  It seems the republicans can't afford to be SEEN as Republicans in an election year.

Pretty unusual for them to come right out and say it   for sure.

McCain is slipping, though, you know.

  8. He is correct in saying that though.

The Republicans would let the gulf coast drown. Americans would send help.

    Its code.

  9. Um...I am just wondering why he cares so much about 'country' now, when during Katrina, he didn't bother with any speeches of country first, but instead he and Bush were celebrating his birthday in Arizona.....does he only care about country when he is running for president?

  10. You mean sort of like when Biden said Barack America, or Obama introduced Biden as the next President?

  11. meh mccains okay. but im not gonna vote so i dont care

  12. I would bet that the original Yahoo version of the quote had been altered, not the later one.  Yahoo probably re-wrote the quote to fit in more with their viewpoint.

It was reported elsewhere as this:

"I pledge that tomorrow night and if necessary throughout our convention, we will act as Americans and not as Republicans because America needs us now. No matter what we are -- Republican or Democratic -- America needs us to do what all Americans have always done in times of disaster and challenge."

The Associated press later changed it to:

'John McCain tore up the script for his Republican National Convention on Sunday, casting himself as above politics as Hurricane Gustav churned toward New Orleans. "We will act as Americans," not partisans, he declared. "This is a time when we have to do away with our party politics, and we have to act as Americans," McCain added...  '

  13. i think you are looking real hard to compalin about the gop

listen closely to what obama says and how he says things, it's worse than hokey

  14. I wish Republican would act more like Americans
